The route

  1. Day 1 / Handover, then settle

Give the walkthrough its own block of time. Reconcile the unit and written agreement, record existing-condition questions with the owner, and use the confirmed campground arrival instructions. Keep the first evening simple rather than adding another reservation.

  2. Day 2 / Walk in the park you booked

At Cherry Creek, choose a section of Campground Trail from its campground access. At Chatfield, choose a section of the Internal Trails Network using the park map. Keep the walk fitted to your party and current conditions, with lunch back at camp.

  3. Day 2 / An unhurried afternoon

    Optional stop

Keep the same overnight site. Make time for a picnic, birdwatching, photographs or simply using the living space. If you choose Prairie Loop at Cherry Creek or Dam Trail at Chatfield, plan its separate access first; neither is a required add-on.

  4. Day 3 / Close both bookings

Follow the recorded campsite checkout and rental return or collection conditions. Leave time for the actual agreement’s cleanup, usage documentation and final questions. Keep receipts and confirmation messages together for later reconciliation.

Set up a single-base weekend

Use this three-day plan with one confirmed campsite and either a collected motorhome or an agreed delivered rental. Compare Chatfield and Cherry Creek, then reserve one site for the stay.

Plan the first and last days around the agreed handover windows. If timing is tight, shorten the optional outing and preserve time for the walkthrough, setup and return tasks.

Why one base is enough for this plan

A full day in the same park lets you enjoy the stay without adding another campground booking. Choose the Saturday option for the park you reserved, with meals and breaks at your base.

For a delivered RV, arrange local transport separately. At Chatfield, choose the trail access using the park map; do not assume every campground loop connects directly to the Dam Trail. Keep optional outings fitted around your actual access and rental agreement.

Align the start and finish

Chatfield and Cherry Creek list 1 p.m. check-in and noon checkout. The rental handover is a separate agreement, so match both confirmations before arranging the first-day schedule.

For delivery, confirm permission with the park and agree setup and collection with the owner. Save the written plan alongside the site reservation, including the return tasks you will be responsible for.

Saturday at Cherry Creek: Campground Trail and a picnic

After breakfast, choose a section of Campground Trail for your morning walk. The paved trail has campground and swim-beach parking-lot access and is shared with cyclists and horseback riders. Use the park map to choose your start and turn-around rather than treating the whole trail as a required route.

Return to camp for lunch and a break. Leave the afternoon for birdwatching, photographs or picnic time. If you want a different walk, Prairie Loop Nature Trail is a separate hiking-only option from Prairie Loop parking lot; plan access separately instead of assuming it joins the campground walk.

Saturday at Chatfield: a trail walk and time by the reservoir

Start with breakfast at camp, then use the park map to choose a section of the Internal Trails Network for a walk and birdwatching. Come back for lunch rather than booking another destination into the middle of the day. Keep the afternoon flexible for reservoir scenery, photography and time at camp.

For a named alternative, Chatfield Dam Trail is paved and starts from Dam Overlook parking lot. Choose it only if you have planned a suitable way to reach that access point. This is an alternative morning walk, not an extra stop every camper needs to fit in.

Keep the plan useful across seasons

The park walks and camp meals form the core of this plan. Both swim beaches are seasonal, so swimming and boat hire are not assumed parts of the day. Check current park conditions and choose the activities that fit the season and your party.

Budget for park vehicle entry or a valid pass as well as the campsite. Cherry Creek also has a water-quality surcharge. Confirm the charges for your booking and arrival arrangement alongside the rental total.

Choose the walk before leaving camp

Open Cherry Creek’s trail guide for Campground Trail or the separate Prairie Loop option. At Chatfield, use the park’s activities and trails guide to choose a section of the Internal Trails Network or plan access to Dam Trail from Dam Overlook.

Pick one morning walk, with a return point that suits your party. Keep lunch and the afternoon flexible. You can enjoy the park without fitting every named trail into the same day.

Finish the overnight plan

Read the Chatfield campground guide for seasonal hookups and the entrance-height restriction, or the Cherry Creek campground guide for winter service changes and longer-stay conditions.

Compare campground services and seasons before settling the rental, then keep both booking confirmations in the first-rental workbook.
